Curriculum
At Emmanuel College we are committed to student-centered learning as an educational approach that places the needs, interests, and abilities of individual students at the forefront of the learning process. In this approach, the student becomes an active participant in their own education, taking ownership of their learning journey. It encourages students to ask questions, think critically, collaborate with peers, problem-solve, communicate effectively, and think independently. We are data informed and instructionally focused, ensuring our students have a solid grounding in Literacy and Numeracy to enable them to success in living life to the full.
The junior years of secondary school are formative for a student’s interests and learning. Providing an opportunity for students to discover their passions and engage in a broad range of subjects, forms the basis of the junior curriculum at Emmanuel College. At Years 7 and 8 students will undertake a range of year-long core subjects that build on previous learnings and extend foundation knowledge. In the Languages, Arts and Technology areas students undertake a series of ‘taster’ subjects designed to expose them to a range of disciplines that enable them to make informed choices from Year 9 onwards.
At Year 9 our students select from a broad range of elective subjects, designed to engage young learners whilst still covering the fundamental skills and knowledge that they will require as they head into senior school.
The senior years of secondary school are a time of discovery and discerning future pathways. At Year 10, to prepare for their senior pathway students:
- May be invited to undertake an Accelerated Study
- Participate in Driver’s Education, Careers Day, City Experience and Retreat
- Will be involved in focussed preparation for their Senior Pathway including completion of the Morrisby Vocational Guidance Test
- May undertake a week of Work Experience connected to a career they wish to explore
