19 November 2025

We are very sad to report the recent passing of past staff member Ms Rosanna Carullo.

Rosanna taught Italian at the St Paul's campus from 1989-2009, including serving as LOTE Coordinator from 1994-2005.

Ms Rosemary Penfold has shared these words about her long-standing friend:

"This week we share the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Rosanna Carullo. A beloved Italian teacher, Rosanna brought her heritage to life. Born in Italy and living there until she was 17, she carried her culture with pride, later moving to Australia with her husband Joseph to build a beautiful family of four children and two grandchildren.

Rosanna lived with vibrant energy, humour, and style. In her younger years she loved playing squash, and throughout her life she remained an enthusiastic walker and a devoted coffee lover. She travelled widely, always with elegance - her magnificent coats were legendary - and her hair never out of place. She had the rare ability to laugh deeply, love warmly, and, in the end, to say goodbye with exquisite grace.

She was also part of a close circle of six friends who all had worked at Emmanuel - Trish, Karen, Peggy, Lisa, Sophia and Rose. Their friendship spanned many decades. Last week they faced the first loss of one of this group. They will always be poorer for her absence.

Rosanna loved Emmanuel College. She shared many adventures with her students, including unforgettable school trips to Italy with Sophia Wolan and other colleagues, creating memories that will last a lifetime. To her, Emmanuel was more than a workplace - it was a community, a source of purpose, connection, and joy. We are sure she would want to thank her colleagues for being such a beautiful staff to work with, and she would wish her ex-students a 'dolce vita', and she would undoubtedly leave all with her gentle reminder: 'Be kind.'

Rosanna enriched our school, our lives, and our hearts. She will be profoundly missed."

We send our deepest condolences to Ms Carullo's family at this sad time. May she rest in peace.
